To some individuals, it is not their crown...they don't have the joy of having a "good hair day"....but instead watch in fear as every hair falls to the floor, or on their shirt or sweater, or accumulate in their brush... and gasp.....
"What is causing this?" they ask quietly.
Here is my story as to why I became a certified Trichologist.
I've been a licensed cosmetologist for many years, let me repeat myself many, many years!! Yes, I'm aged, but like a fine wine, I've aged well with my career. I had a particular loved client sit in my chair, she was in tears, begging me for answers, as her hair was falling out as she sobbed. On that very day, in the afternoon, a new client, with patches of hair loss, proclaimed her story of purchasing a wig, from a tragedy she experienced from a personal physical attack from blows to the head, that left her with nerve damage in areas of the scalp. I went home dismayed,and angry that I had no answers, found my dinosaur cosmetology study book, of yellow tarnished pages. Well, now I know why I'm naïve of hair loss, there was maybe 3 pages of "Alopecia" in a 300 page study book. The book referenced the term "Alopecia", a term I barely remember hearing something about it, but really had no clue what it meant. I started looking for answers and realized that in today's world there is actual answers, that are effective, safe, and really WORK!. Biggest claim of all, non-surgical and non-evasive. I tripped through sites, with proclamations of success, feeling the excitement that I could actually help my clients and offer them answers!! Recovering from the loss of both my parents, and my husbands parents in a short span, I was contemplating on retiring and hiding in my garden. Feeling the enthusiasm of learning something new where I could actully offer answers and options that WORK, to help clients I care about and love, I knew what my next journey would be.
I researched "Trichology Institutes" and found what I felt was the best education I would receive, through the US Trichology Institute out of Latham, NY, I received triple Trichology certification. First, I received the Hair loss Practioner course, then the Associates Trichology certification, and last my clinicals from NY Presbyterian Columbia Hospital, and certification through the American Medical Certification Association. This institute would hold me accountable for my knowledge, and drive me to become the best I can be offer with this new addition to my cosmetology field. I didn't want to just offer a padded answer, I thrived to be good, knowledgeable, and offer my clients solid educated answers with a thorough medical exam, and consultation. I offer those for free, as I want my clients to know I take thier situation seriously, and am doing this to present answers for free that WORK because I do this to help them, and I care.
Each client has a unique situation, and getting to "ROOT of the problem" is the first step to determining a solution, and putting in motion an effective plan without robbing the bank, doing painful evasive surgery,and leaving a client in more frustration than when she came in.
After a thorough 90min consultation consisting of:
1. Complete medical history discussion
2. Digital photography
3. Haircheck for exactly precise accurate percentage of hair loss in the affected area
4. Capillarscopic study, for hair follicle and scalp health evaluation
5.Education for proper hair care
6.Individualized plan with realistic expectations
